Project Akwaba

Akwaba means “welcome” on Baule, one of the many African languages spoken in Côte d’Ivoire.

We started our Akwaba project for women who support their families as sole earners.

Our first project participant, Caroline Osse, has a small sales stand in front of her door. Her husband is blind; therefore, she is the sole earner of the family and tries to cover all costs by selling cosmetics and food. Her aim is to increase her range of goods and to have more goods in stock.

Our second participant is Apie Michelle Coutou. She is 60 years old and unmarried and sells smoked fish that she makes herself. She buys the fresh fish from the dealer and smokes it herself to sell it. She also wants to enlarge her stand and needs our support.

Regina, our fourth participant (30) makes soap in a traditonal way and from natural raw materials iand sells them.

Our fith particpant is Salimata (40). As the sole earner of the familiy (her husband is blind) she tries to cover everything by selling fruits.

If you want to know more about our participants, just click on the name and look at the corresponding profile.
